Forest Hill Bass Club Wins 37th Annual La. Top Six Bass Tournament

The week-end of March 29th and 30th some 260 plus members of the La. Top Six Association converged on Toledo Bend Reservoir for the 37th Annual La. Top Six Bass Tournament. This is a bass club championship, to see which club is the best of the best. The tournament was sponsored by Bass Cat Boats and I-49 Marine.

First day results found Bayou Bassmaster's of Alexandria in first place with a weight of 42.12lbs, anchored by a 10.30 lb. bass caught by Shane Lurry of Bayou. In a very close 2nd place was another central Louisiana team, Forest Hill Bass Club with a weight of 42.06 lbs, followed by the Lone Ranger Bass Club with 37.16 lbs, Sabine Bass Club with 36.22 lbs. and Sportsmans Bass Club of Southwest La. with 35.78 lbs.

Sunday's torrential down pour and severe storms did not deter these avid fisherman as 306 fish were brought to the scales on Sunday with an average weight of 2.53 lbs. per fish.

When the final weights were announced, Forest Hill Bass Club emerged as the Champions of the 2008 La. Top Six with a total weight of 77.18 lbs. and a check for $6,000. They were followed by Rod Benders Bass Club of Shreveport with 76.46 lbs. along with a check for $2,000. Third place went to Sportsmans Bass Club of Southwest La. with 72.30 lbs. and $1,000. Fourth went to the host team Bayou Bassmasters of Alexandria with 69.90 lbs. and $600. Fifth place went to last year's runner-up West Central Bass Club of Leesville with 69.64 lbs. and $400. Shane Lurry of Bayou Bassmasters of Alexandria won the Big Bass of the tournament award with a 10.30 lb. monster and a check for $484.

The team boat drawing for the Bass Cat Sabre, equipped with a Mercury 150 HP EFI, Motor Guide Trolling motor and Hummingbird depth finders valued at $33,800 was won by the Red Neck Bass Club. We would like to thank Bass Cat Boats and I-49 Marine for furnishing one of the finest boats made. We at Bayou would also like to thank all the fishermen who participated in this years' event and hope to see you next year.

Tickets are still on sale for the Raffle Boat, also an identical boat to the team boat. Bayou will be at Wal-Mart in Alexandria this Saturday selling tickets and the boat will be on display. The drawing for the boat will be on May 3rd at the Amphitheater in downtown Alexandria. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Louisiana State Autism Chapter, so please help out if you can. The drawing will take place at 2:00 p.m.
