William Perego & Wes Moody wins 1st place with 17.34 pounds
Anglers Quest 2008 Sam Rayburn Saturday Series # 5 out at Mill Creek Park in Brookeland, Texas began this event with 70 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $3,670.00 purse. The event began at safe light, which was 6:10 am with weigh in conducted in 2 flights at 3:15 & 3:30 pm. The water out at Sam Rayburn was in good shape and about normal pool level with water temps running 67-70 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a breezy 64 degrees, a warming to 83 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was decent on Big Sam today. There were 16 limits brought to the scales for a total of 116 bass at 264.19 lbs making the average bass 2.27 lb.

First Place team of William Perego & Wes Moody from Kirbyville, TX ran William’s Skeeter/Mercury to south lake areas they probe 5 ft depths around creek channel edges and bushes with TX rigged brush hogs & 10” worms to bring five nice bass to the scales that weighed 17.34 lbs. Their winnings were $1,225.00 for their day out on the water.

Jack Carroll & Roy Carroway took a close 2nd place with 17.30 pounds
The team of Jack Carroll & Roy Carroway from Lufkin, TX ran Jack’s Skeeter/Yamaha to cover mid lake areas. They came to the scales with five nice bass that weighed 17.30 lbs to capture 2nd place which allowed them to collect $600.00 for their day on the water.

Griff Griffith from Huffman & Mike Matheson from Humble, TX took Griff’s Sprint/Mercury bass rig to mid lake ledges with grass to fish Carolina-rigged worms in 6-8 ft water. They finished in 3rd place with 15.55 lbs. Griff & Mike had the Big Bass of the event, a fine 7.34 pounder and took home $605.00 for their day on the water.

The current AOY leaders Matt Purghan from Orange & Ross Smith from Bridge City, TX ran their BassCat/Mercury bass rig to North lake areas. They managed to bring in five bass at 13.95 lbs to garner 4th place. Their efforts paid off $355.00 for the day.

Greg Crawford from Huffman & Tommy Bankhead from Crosby, TX went to North lake areas with Greg’s Champion/Mercury bass rig. Targeting areas with grass clumps in 5-8 ft of water they threw c-rigs and brought in five bass at 13.05 lbs to garner 5th place and collect $225.00.

The 6th place winnings of $185.00 was gathered up by Tommy Hill from Kountze & Kenneth Conkle from Port Neches, TX with 5 bass at 11.82 lbs. Elton Thomae gathered the last money spot of $150.00 with 5 bass that tipped the scales at 11.24 lbs.

The one with the most points after finishing all nine events in this Rayburn Saturday Series will be Team Anglers of the year, with free entries to all the 2009 Rayburn Saturday Series events. The Top 25 teams with the most pounds will qualify for the 2-day Championship in October on Sam Rayburn. The special Top Five groups of teams will qualify to go to the “Tournament of Champions” to be held in November on Choke Canyon Reservoir and will pay the winning team $15,000.00. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for, with a very small entry fee of $125.00 per team.

Anglers Quest will be at The Ponderosa Marina on Lake Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. We will be at The Marina Shell on Lake Conroe for the weekly series events through September. On May 10th AQ will be at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle on Lake Livingston for the 6th of the nine Livingston Saturday Series events. On May 17th AQ will be at Alpine Marina on Toledo Bend for the 5th of nine Toledo Bend Saturday Series events. AQ will be back on Big Sam on May 25th for the 5th of seven Super Team events.
